How do I know if my couch has bycast leather or just leather?
We have a sectional that may have bycast leather trim, as opposed to leather trim. Is there a good product that I can use to maintain it that would work well on both? If I treat it as leather, but it's not, will the leather treatment products harm the bycast leather? We were told that it was leather trim when we purchased the couch, but have since seen one just like it online that says it is bycast leather.

Use Leather Protect on both it will not harm the Bicast in fact it will do it good. You need to clean and protect it like leather otherwise it will suffer in much the same way as leather does. Bicast is particularly prone to damage from body oils but this may not be a problem in the areas that you have on yours.

Always use products that have been well tested on leather and be careful of homemade remedies such as appear on here as they can be very damaging to leather. Good leather products will be safe to use on bicast as well (there is no need to purchase different products for each) any one who does a seperate bicast range has just rebottled leather products!!

Lazy Leather is a good maintenance product for both leather and bicast as it cleans the surface and adds protection as you clean.

Using conditioners could have a very adverse affect on bicast as there is no where for it to go and so it will sit on the surface and attract oils and dirt - something you don't want to happen. A good protector is water based and so the residue that is left will protect the surface from oils and the water element will evaporate.
Good luck
"BiCast leather" is not truly leather at all- Legislation has been inacted in several countries and many more are following suit. Its like saying particle board is like hard wood. BiCast is a fibourous mat that then has the film that has the color and the grain already in it glued to the surface- its is weird to see it when it fails as the whole top peels back and there is a greyish black smooth mat of leather fibres underneath. We have seen terrible tearing when it is used in load bearing areas- starts as a small weak spot one day, a week later it has spread and torn from seam to seam.
Bicast is essentially like a synthetic- so dont worry about the conditioner use Lexol, or if you wish we have a range of conditioners you can look at, at http://www.ADVL…
( I say Lexol first as I dont want you to think I'm just trying to sell something- its purely if you want to look and have more info)
